A deeper way to rebuild your relationship.

A Four-Month Couples Intensive Designed to Restore Trust, Connection, and Intimacy.

When communication breaks down, distance grows, or intimacy fades, many couples feel stuck repeating the same painful patterns.

Our Couples Intensive offers a structured, in-depth therapeutic process that helps partners understand themselves, each other, and their relationship at a deeper level—so real change can happen.

Location: Oakville

Format: Four-Month Intensive | 33 Hours of Therapy

Led by: Experienced Psychoanalytic & Couples Psychotherapists

When Your Relationship Feels Harder Than It Should.

Many couples come to therapy saying:

  • “We talk, but nothing changes.”

  • “We love each other, but feel disconnected.”

  • “We’re stuck in the same arguments.”

  • “The intimacy just isn’t there anymore.”

Traditional weekly couples therapy can help—but for some relationships, it doesn’t go far enough or deep enough to create lasting change. Our Couples Intensive is designed for couples who want more than symptom relief—they want to understand why their relationship struggles and how to transform it from the inside out.

Program Overview

A Thoughtful, Structured Approach to Couples Therapy.

This program is grounded in psychoanalytic psychotherapy and thoughtfully integrates other evidence-based approaches. Rather than offering quick fixes or communication scripts alone, we focus on the emotional, relational, and unconscious patterns that shape how partners relate to themselves and each other.

Change happens in stages—and this program honours that process.

The Couples Intensive

4 Months | 33 Total Hours

This program unfolds in four carefully sequenced phases, allowing for deep individual insight and meaningful relational change.

❋ Intake & Assessment

Building a Clear Understanding of Your Relationship

3 Intake Sessions

We begin by developing a comprehensive understanding of:

  • Each partner’s personal history

  • Relationship patterns and recurring conflicts

  • Emotional needs, attachment dynamics, and goals for therapy

This foundation allows us to tailor the work specifically to your relationship.

❋ Individual Work: The Relationship with The Self

Strengthening the Individual to Support the Relationship

12 Individual Sessions (6 per partner)

Before meaningful relational change can occur, each partner needs space to:

  • Understand their emotional patterns and triggers

  • Explore attachment histories and defenses

  • Develop greater self-awareness and emotional capacity

This individual work helps reduce reactivity and creates the conditions for deeper, safer couples work.

❋ Couples Work-Friendship & Emotional Bond

Rebuilding Trust, Safety, and Emotional Connection

Part of 18 Couples Sessions

In this phase, we focus on restoring the relational foundation:

  • Trust and emotional safety

  • Empathy and receptivity

  • Understanding each other’s inner worlds

  • Rekindling friendship, playfulness, and shared enjoyment

This is where many couples begin to feel hope again.

❋ Romance & Intimacy

Renewing Desire, Affection, and Sexual Connection

Part of 18 Couples Sessions

As emotional safety strengthens, we turn toward:

  • Romantic connection

  • Emotional and physical intimacy

  • Desire, sexuality, and vulnerability

  • Navigating blocks to closeness without shame or pressure

This work is approached with sensitivity, respect, and clinical depth.

Our Approach

Why Psychoanalytic Couples Therapy?

At The Mind People, we believe lasting change happens when couples:

* Understand the emotional meaning behind conflict

* Recognize unconscious patterns shaping the relationship

* Develop the capacity to reflect rather than react

* Experience new emotional moments within the therapeutic relationship

Our clinicians draw from psychoanalytic therapy while integrating complementary modalities when helpful—always guided by what the couple needs.
